Planned giving
Carl Renfro’s instinct was never to write a single cheque — it was to build something that would keep paying out long after he was gone. A planned gift does the same.
The foundation’s exact legal name, EIN, mailing address and tax status have not been supplied, and none have been invented here. A bequest needs those details to be unambiguous in a will — if they are wrong, the gift can fail after the donor has died, when nobody is able to correct it. This page must not go live until an attorney has confirmed every one of them.
Your attorney will draft the actual wording. This is the shape it usually takes.
“I give and bequeath to [EXACT LEGAL NAME], a nonprofit organization located at [MAILING ADDRESS], Federal Tax ID [EIN], [the sum of $______ / ______% of my residuary estate], to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
Three bracketed values, and all three must come from the foundation’s formation documents rather than from this website. If the foundation wants gifts restricted to a particular focus area, that wording needs drafting too.
Donors and their attorneys look for this in one place. It also determines how a gift is treated: whether the foundation is a private foundation or a public charity changes the deduction limits that apply to the donor, and whether it may solicit gifts publicly at all. That question should be settled before this page is published.
Nothing on this page is legal or tax advice, and the foundation cannot act as your advisor. Every situation is different, and the rules change. Please work with your own attorney, accountant or financial adviser before making a planned gift.
You are never obliged to tell us you have included the foundation in your plans. But if you are comfortable doing so, it lets us thank you properly and make sure your intentions are understood and honored.
Planned gifts usually route to a named person rather than a general inbox. Until one is designated, enquiries go to shelley@poncacitychamber.com.
Questions about leaving a gift to Renfro Family Foundation are always welcome, and nothing said is a commitment.
